Concept Models

Based on the collages, i have created several concept models

These are the concept models that i have created for "Motion"

The first four pictures represent how an element can flow/ cascade freely within a space

This model represents how the motion of an element can be manipulated and we start to see shadow creating voids

This next set of concept models were created for my "Connection" collage.

These next set of pictures are my impression of a performing arts theater.

The first model represents a person and how the body can move in a liquid way.

This concept shows how a link of people can be hoisted or lifted in the air in a performance.

  1. There are three elements that caught my in your collages and models. FLUIDITY, REPETITION and TRANSPARENCY.
Is there are a way of taking those elements and coming up with a composite model.
And the next step is to bring it to an actual scale, and start developing sections and plans of your building.

  2. These models are wonderful. I am interested in the negative space of the last motion model. It appears that it has a sweeping motion that reflects that of the water, and creates a strong positive space that can be juxtaposed next to the negative space that could be transparent such as the lifting model. You need to develop a model to scale within the site using one or some of these ideas.

  4. These conceptual models are great as they carry different levels of information. The two main aspects are the materiality intention and the design intention.

The four basic design operations, I extract are the following:
    CANTILEVER
(architectural precedents: Seoul National University Museum by OMA, NANJING SIFANG ART MUSEUM by Steven Holl)
    FOLDING
    (greg lynn projects)
    RIBBON
(eyebeam by leeser, ICA by Diller Scofildio)
    STACKING
(silodam by Mvrdv, habitat 67 by Moshe Safdie, vitra house by herzog de meuron, tokyo apartments by Sou Fujimoto)

Think of how you can combine these operations together with materiality intentions and of course your programmatic scenario to come up with your design manifesto.

I think that the model representing folds (the last motion model) has lots of potential in terms of boundaries blurring. The idea of blurring the limits btw interior / exterior and void /solid relationships is very challenging.
As a theoretical support have in mind the concept of the fold concept by Deleuze:
“The outside is not a fixed limit but a moving matter animated by peristaltic movements, folds and foldings that together make up an inside: they are not something other than the outside, but precisely the inside of the outside.”
Deleuze, Gilles. “The Fold-Leibniz and the Baroque: The Pleats of Matter.”

In terms of materiality intentions I extract very interesting dipoles such as plastic transparency/neatness vs steel opaque and wood rigidity vs plastic flexibility. Think of how you express these on your design.
